Texture Repair & Matching
Paint hides a lot of sins, but texture is not one of them. A perfectly filled patch with the wrong finish still catches your eye from across the room. Texture work is what separates a drywall repair you forget about from one you stare at every day. It is also the part of the trade we enjoy most.
The Finish Line of Every Drywall Job
Hanging board and taping seams is half the job. The last half is the finish: the surface quality and texture that people actually see. Skimp there, and even solid structural work looks amateur. We put as much care into the finish coats as the framing behind them, and it shows in walls that read as one unbroken surface.
Knockdown: Plano’s Most Popular Texture
Walk through most Plano subdivisions and you will see knockdown on the walls. It starts as a spray of texture blobs, then a flat knife knocks them down into a soft, random pattern. Matching an existing knockdown means reproducing both the size of the blobs and how heavily they were flattened. Too crisp or too flat, and the patch announces itself.
Orange Peel: Fine Spray, Fine Details
Orange peel is the finer cousin of knockdown — a tight spray of small bumps with no flattening. It is common in hallways, bedrooms, and ceilings. The challenge with orange peel is subtlety: the droplet size and the thickness of the application both have to match, or the repaired area looks slightly different under room lighting.
Smooth Walls Need a Level 5 Finish
Smooth walls have nowhere to hide. Every tool mark, seam ridge, and sanding scratch shows, especially in sunlight from a window. A proper smooth finish means additional skim coats and patient sanding — what drywallers call a Level 5 finish. We do that work when the room deserves it, and we will tell you when a lesser finish makes more sense, like in a garage.
Matching Old Texture in Older Homes
Texture styles changed over the decades, and some older Plano neighborhoods have finishes you will not find in new construction. Hand-applied textures and unusual spray patterns take extra study. We examine the wall, reproduce the technique on a sample board, and adjust until the match holds up under your room’s actual lighting.
Sample Boards Before Wall Time
We never experiment on your wall. Every texture job starts with a sample board sprayed next to the original surface. We compare, adjust, and compare again until the board is indistinguishable from the wall. That board becomes the standard for the repair. It costs us a little extra time and saves a lot of do-overs.
Spraying vs. Hand Texturing
Most modern textures go on with a hopper gun, which gives consistent coverage across large areas. Some repairs and older finishes call for hand work with a trowel or brush instead. Knowing when each tool is right is part of the craft. Using the wrong method is one of the top reasons repairs stand out.
Photo Estimates for Texture Work
Texture repairs are often easy to quote from a distance. Text us a photo of the damaged area along with the room’s dimensions, and we can usually identify the texture style and price the job the same day. Prefer an in-person look? We do that too, free of charge. Call Plano Drywall Repair Pros at (555) 555-5555.
